Google Analytics 4 is much more than just a new “version” of Google Analytics. It’s a completely new platform – built from the ground up to collect, process, and report on data differently than Google Analytics ever has been. Migrating to Google Analytics 4 is a complex and integral process that requires strategic planning and expert implementation. It is also a requirement for all brands to do so by July 1, 2023 for the free version of the Analytics, and July 1, 2024 for those using the paid 360 product.
Some are wondering about Google’s newest auto-migration option. For most brands, utilizing Google’s GA4 migration is not recommended. Here’s what Google has to say about it:
“Jumpstart is an auto-migration resource to help less sophisticated Universal Analytics users migrate to GA4 by July 1, 2023 when UA will officially sunset. As with any auto-migration, the complexity of a customer’s setup is inversely correlated with how well an auto-migration will perform. Said another way, for any brand using complex or custom measurement or targeting strategies – certainly every brand partnered with More Visibility – I strongly recommend working to manually complete this migration as soon as possible and not relying on mechanisms designed only for simple setups. Our mandatory migration date is quickly approaching and many brands are not in a strong position to make this change over. We’ve armed MoreVisibility and our agency partners with resources and training to guide our shared clients through this transition, but the time to get moving is NOW.”
As a Google Analytics Partner, MoreVisibility has extensive experience formulating custom data strategies and implementing useful reporting for brands across all industries and types. Fill out the form on this page to get help with GA4.
