Say Goodbye to Google Optimize

April Nelson - February 13, 2023

With the end date of Universal Analytics upon us, Google has been sunsetting related products that work based on the underlying UA JavaScript and one of these products is Google Optimize. After September 30, 2023, both the free and paid (360) versions of Google Optimize will no longer be available.

Are you planning to run A/B, multivariate, or A/B using Google Optimize in 2023?

Are you currently using Google Optimize?

Have you used Google Optimize or Google Website Optimizer in the past?

If you answered no and are not doing any kind of testing on your website, why not?! With low effort or cost you can increase website engagement, conversions, and user-friendliness.

If you answered yes, here are three things you can do in preparation for the Google Optimize sunset date on September 30, 2023.

Download your historical experiment data.

Check to ensure all of your experiments are set to end by September 30 at the latest.

Start learning about alternatives to Google Optimize for your testing needs.

Google Analytics 4 will no doubt integrate A/B testing in the future. There are also several paid options outside of Google products. One robust option is Optimizely, which we started writing about in 2011 as a solid alternative to Google Website Optimizer, the predecessor of Google Optimize.

Use Google Optimize while you can! There is still time to strategize, set up an experiment, reach a conclusion, and take action within a 3-6-9-month timeframe. Not sure what to evaluate? We work with our clients to identify data-driven testing opportunities and see them through from set up to completion and actioning based on experiment conclusions.
