Although “Automated Insights” is not a new tool within the Google Analytics platform, Google continues to invest in its functionality and has now expanded the tool to almost all languages as of March 6, 2019. If you are not familiar with Automated Insights, it is a feature within Google Analytics (part of Google’s overall “Analytics Intelligence”) meant to surface insights and explanations about trends and changes in your data and even some recommendations about what you could consider doing differently. Additionally, these insights are meant to be presented in a conversational manner, rather than just highlighting data points. Ultimately, these insights and recommendations are in line with the larger push by organizations like Google to use Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to help augment digital marketers and analytics specialists, making them more efficient at their job.
On 1/11/18, Facebook made an important announcement about large changes to how the News Feed will work in the future and how its success will be measured. They will now focus on helping users have more meaningful social interactions (through more content from their friends and personal connections) and will move away from helping users find relevant content (from anyone including organizations). To quote Mark Zuckerberg from his announcement on this subject “I’m changing the goal I give our product teams from focusing on helping you find relevant content to helping you have more meaningful social interactions.”
Google has released a new feature tied to Google My Business (GMB) locations that allows users to ask questions and provide answers about a location directly within mobile search results and Google Maps. The feature does not currently appear to be accessible on desktop devices. It is available on all mobile devices from Google.com web search, and Android devices from the Google Maps app.
