Oath is the newly formed parent company of Yahoo and AOL under the new ownership of Verizon. Very similar to Google AdWords or Bing, Yahoo Gemini offers a variety of advertising options to marketers for driving website traffic, raising brand awareness or even to promote a mobile app.
The more common advertising applications include:
- Search – Text ads will appear on Yahoo.com network of sites. Note: Inventory is limited for the time being, but expected to grow as Yahoo and Bing finalize separation.
- Native Advertising – Ads that mimic the editorial content it’s on, however is paid promotion
- Native ads across the Yahoo properties including Yahoo Mail, Tumblr, Yahoo Sports, Finance, etc.
- Search on Native – Retargeting users based on their search history

Two new ad units that were just introduced, are:
Carousel Ads (beta) – these are very similar to what Facebook offers in their platform, and can help to highlight several products, properties or servcies in one ad unit. Several images can be included, each with a different URL landing page for deeper engagement.
Mail ad – turns the prominent top ad in the user’s inbox into a truly native ad that can be read, saved, or forwarded, just like an email.
We all know Google has the lion share of search volume, but do not overlook some of the supplemental sources of valuable (less competitive) traffic available.
